Why do some bill reminders update the closing balance and others do not. This question was posted before by someone else but closed without answer.

The "Closing Balance" column indicates the account's balance at the end of the day, after all transactions have been added up.
If you have more than one transaction on any given day, the Closing Balance will show the same amount for each transaction. It's not a Running Balance like in your account register. It's the Closing Balance … and that explains the difference.

    Please explian the math above?

I'm guessing you're showing the Projected Balances view, filtered to show only one selected account.

Are there other reminders, e.g., a transfer to your Checking account from another register which isn't showing here? Or perhaps future dated already recorded register transactions not shown here?

If none of the above applies, I recommend running both a Validate and Supervalidate on your data file.

WTH? How do you do that?

Found an ran the validate with no change in results. Have no idea where to fine "super validate".

As discussed and documented many times …

    Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
    Validate:
    • Click File
    • Select Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Validate File
    • If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots".
    • If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

    Super Validate:
    • Click File
    • Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
    • Select Supervalidate File
    • Click OK
    • Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
    • Close Quicken (leave it closed for about 30 secs)
    • Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

A snide thank you. I guess I should check all postings daily so I don't miss something may may actually need some day.

FYI, nothing reported. No change in results… Could it be a bug???

I think "Closing Balance" in Projected Balances means the closing balance of the account for that day. Transactions that have the same date and account will always report the same closing balance.

Thanks but you need to read the entire thread.

@ghgross I have read the entire thread. The transactions list in Projected Balances do not add up because there are other transactions in the account register that are not listed in Projected Balances. If you compare the account register and the Projected Balance list for a particular day, you will see that the account register has all transactions, whereas the Projected Balances list includes only Reminder items.

Your logic escapes me. Yes the account register has all past transactions. Remiders are future transactions, right? Projected balances begin with the ending balance of the account register and applies the remider transaction giving a result for that day in the future. If you look closer at the screen shot I provided earlier this is not the case. You can see the the projected balance is affected one day but not another and then again affecting the next. This cannot be right.

@ghgross - if you were to show pending items or reminders in your account register, I think you will see what is happening. Go ahead and choose to show reminders in your account register and then compare end of day balances with those in Projected Balances. Hopefully you will see that they match.

    Not even close

Register calculates correctly but projected balances are still incorrect. I guess i'll have a clutered account register so I can see projected balances correctly. Not a happy solution…
