Why can Quicken not differentiate between similarly named funds?

I posted this last summer and again last December, and got no replies. Maybe someone different will see it this time.

Quicken seems to be unable to tell the difference between Western Asset Core Bond Fund I (WATFX) and Western Asset Core PLUS Bond Fund I (WACPX). I used to hold shares of both funds in a Morgan Stanley account, and the dividends were always assigned to the wrong fund. I had my Morgan Stanley wealth manager move all of the funds to the CORE PLUS Fund – and Quicken always assigns them to the CORE Fund.

The problem occurs when transactions are downloaded from Morgan Stanley during a Transaction Update

I am running Quicken for Windows, currently on Version R56.9. This has been happening for quite a while..

I am assuming you have both funds represented in your Quicken file.

Edit the security details for both funds.

Uncheck the box "Matched with online security" for both funds.

On you next download, you should get the opportunity to match the current holding that Morgan Stanley sends with the correct security in your Quicken file. Once correctly matched, you should be all set.

I did that, and did a One-Step Update. It reported no new transactions, and the funds do not show as matched with a security. Guess I will have to wait until the next dividend payment at the end of May to see if it worked.
