Almost there on auto categorization of transactions downloaded to credit cards
I have read many threads and although a long-time user, have never pro-actively used quickfill although I let Quicken change multiple transactions for a downloaded charge if it wants.
I even saw a thread that almost made this work but not quite. What I want to do is this. For Amazon transactions downloaded to one credit card, I want them to go to one specific category. For Amazon transactions downloaded to another card, I want the to go to a different category. For my default.....and if I change one transaction at some point, I don't want all future transactions changed to that.
Like I said almost there....the complexity is that all downloaded transactions do not always have the same vendor name as they have a mix of numbers and letters after it. And I do not want to rename the vendor like most help wants you to do. If it starts with say Amaz....regardless if anything after that, for one card I want it to go here, for another card I want them to go somehwere else.
Is this possible? And how do I clear the apparent current mish mash of prior categorization I must have done that it randomly assigns them to?
Thanks for any help,appreciate it.

For me, Amazon transactions are downloaded using several different Payee Names. If I use different credit cards, there are additional differences depending on the credit card service provider and how they present the payee name.
Again, for me, entering Amazon purchases as I make them, by hand, and assigning them to their respective categories appears the best and only way to get what I need. Multiple Memorized Payee List entries, all named "Amazon" with Memo text, "Clothing", "Pool maint.", etc. help me pick the correct categorization as I record a new purchase. Downloaded transaction information never contains any purchase item detail so I can't key in on that.If the differences between your credit cards are substantial enough, you might be able to use Renaming Rules and create one Renaming Rule for "Amazon X" and another one for "Amazon Y" (where X and Y are the categories you want to use). Set up each Renaming Rule with "if name contains …" combinations unique to each credit card.
If, OTOH, the same downloaded payee name appears in both credit cards, you can't use it for a Renaming Rule.
I'm afraid you can't have just one Payee Name, "Amazon", and then auto-assign categories by credit card. That function does not exist for Renaming Rules.0
