Phantom transaction that won't go away
In a checking account I have a transaction for $275 to a payee in all caps that won't go away. Unlike the somewhat similar example in the link below, it does let me delete. I delete and it goes away. However, next time I re-open the quicken file it's back. I created a dummy account and moved the transaction there instead of deleting. It still comes back in the original account and a copy remains in the dummy account. I've tried validating and super-validating. I'm using the latest version of Quicken 57.12.

Are you using Q Cloud to connect to Q Mobile or QWeb. It sounds like the transaction is coming from there.
I'd suggest, at least temporarily, disabling Q Cloud and see how your issue reacts.

Does this screenshot mean I already have it off:
If not, how do I disable Q cloud?

Good idea from NotACPA but you don't have mobile sync turned-on.
Have you tried to VOID the transaction?
I also wonder if the transaction is assigned to a category?

It is not assigned to a category. When you try to set a category it says "Can't modify this transaction, because it has been damaged. Please delete it and create a new one."
Unfortunately deleting doesn't work permanently. It always comes back.

So does this phamtom transaction make your balance off by $275? Since it keeps coming back how about manually adding a "Correction transaction deposit" that adds $275 back into the account…

If you haven't done so already, please do the following actions:
- Even if you are on the latest software level already, download and install the latest Manual Patch file from https://www.quicken.com/support/update-and-patch-20182019-release-quicken-windows-subscription-product to ensure your Quicken software is up to date and correctly installed.
- Reboot Windows.
- Start Quicken. Do not run One Step Update.
- Run BOTH Validate and Supervalidate to attempt to repair your Quicken data file.
- If nothing helps, try to restore your Quicken data file from an Automatic or Manual backup taken just prior to the problems first occurring.
Validate and Supervalidate instructions
First save a backup file prior to performing these steps
Validate:
• Click File
• Select Validate and Repair File...
• Select Validate File
• If the data file contains investment accounts also select "Rebuild investing lots".
• If you suspect that a damaged Quotes Price History causes your problems, also select "Correct investing price history" functions "Delete" or "Repair and Rebuild".
• Click OK
• Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
• Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
• Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.Super Validate:
• Click File
• Press and hold both CTRL and Shift keys while you click Validate and Repair File...
• Select Supervalidate File
• Click OK
• Review the Data Log. Anything interesting in there, worthwhile posting here?
• Close Quicken, leave it closed for about 30 secs
• Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.0 -
RE retird's comment — Thx. I may have to end up going that way when I give up on trying to solve the issue.
RE UKR -
I did an install from the manual patch file. I did a validate and I did a super validate. The validate found some issues with unspecified accounts that I fixed by just setting them to some miscellaneous category. It did not however solve the phantom transaction issue which still is coming back. The validate & super validate also found an issue with a stock split i don't know how to fix. The text of the validate and super validate are attached (some account names have been crossed out. The phantom transaction that shows up is in account yyyyyyyyyyyyyy in the validate text that had most of the issues with unspecified accounts.

I have a similar problem with a transaction that appears in a search, but does not actually appear in the account. If I click on the transaction in the search window, it takes me to the proper account, but no transaction actually appears for that date or anywhere in Quicken. I try deleting it in the search window, but I don't believe that is an option. I have tried both Validate and Supervalidate options.
Any ideas?
