Transactions missing from at least one account

My last backup is from 7 days ago, so I really hope this doesn't require a restore because I'll have NO idea what I did between that backup and now.

I'm end-of-month accepting known downloaded transactions in a US Bank credit card account that I don't use or view very often.

Just noticed that I have NO transactions between 9/26/2011 and 6/10/2024 - though I do have transactions on this account at least every couple of months (if not a little more). There are NO filters in place.

What are the steps I should take to see if this is a fluke and the transactions have NOT, in fact, been somehow deleted? Do I want to backup, exit, restart, validate? Or some other sequence of steps… ?

I'm on R56.9.

In my multiple decades of using Quicken - this has NEVER happened before, and it's bumming me out.

P.S. Just noticed in Account Details > Online Services, it says "This account is closed." Nope. No, it isn't.

With almost 13 years missing, I think that your best option is to reconcile the account to the most recent statement (inputting txn from that statement as needed) and then plug in an adjusting entry.

Alternatively, you could restore the backups (maybe getting older and older backups until you find one that has the missing txn). Restore it to a DIFFERENT file name (so as to not overwrite the current file) and then print off the missing txn so that you can input them into your current file.

Also, just in case, have you tried a File Validation? Corrupted file isn't likely to be the cause of this situation, but just in case you might try that.

BTW, Q doesn't close files on its own. Somehow, it was told to do so … probably back in 2011.

And when did you last reconcile ANY of your accounts? Doesn't sound like you've done so recently.

No, I do reconcile every month when I can - every quarter at least.

FORTUNATELY - I closed Quicken, not knowing what else to do, and put it away. Now, 2 hours later, I reopen my file - and all my transactions are there, in that account, and the Express WebConnect+ indicator is at the top of the register, so the account is NOT closed.

I have no idea what this was - but it scared the bejeebus outta me and, like I said, I've never seen this happen in Quicken, through decades of use.

Looks like I'll be backing up daily, going forward.

SO - turns out this was entirely on me, and is NOT a Quicken problem.

I was in that account trying to match a downloaded payment transaction to the already-entered matching transaction in my checking account. The payment exists in my checking account, and shows the US Bank credit card account as the transfer account. But there's no corresponding transaction in the US Bank credit card account. If I "Go to Matching Transfer" from the checking transaction - that's when the US Bank account opens up and shows only transactions from 2011 and before.

AND - I now see why: There was a CLOSED credit card with a very similar name, up until this credit card switched to a new financial institution. The transfer on the checking account was to the closed account. I don't recall WHERE, but I must've turned on the ability to see/use my hidden/closed accounts recently, for some reason - and I need to find and turn that off to avoid this confusion (or rename the old credit card account).

    My bad…

UPDATE: just checked, and the old account is supposed to be hidden from reports, features and account lists, but I renamed it anyway. Not sure why it was available as an option to transfer to, unless this is by design?

@EmKay Thanks for the update … and for "owning up".
