Where did my BALANCE Column go?

I am. using current v. of Quicken on an iMac with updated software. I am unable to find, view or search successfully for my Checking Account BALANCE Column. I am afraid to hit "Restore to Default"… as I do not want to lose any memorized categories or other customized features.

First, make sure you're looking at an individual account and not an account group. Account groups don't have a balance column. If the item you have selected in the sidebar has a ">" or "v" next to it when you hover your cursor over it then it's an account group:

If you are looking at an individual account and you still don't see the Balance column, click on the Columns button in the lower right corner and put a check mark next to Balance in the list of columns.

@jon Isn't there also something about the Balance column if the register is sorted by something other than date? Or am I mis-remembering?

If the register is not sorted by date then the values in the balance column are displayed in italics to let you know they don’t reflect the actual account balance. But the column is still displayed regardless of how it is sorted.
