Searching transactions shows opening balance

Hello,

I've been having an issue that makes me wonder if I have a problem with my data.

When I search for a transaction, regardless of what the search text is, Quicken always shows me the opening balance of the account I'm in. This occurs in all my accounts (and when searching All Transactions). Here is an example of what I see when I search a nonsensical string:

Furthermore, when I hit escape to clear the search, I receive a popup which states "You are recording a transfer back into the same account. Save it anyway?" This happens despite the fact that I have not made any changes to anything, I simply hit escape.

This is very concerning and doesn't seem right. I've tried validating my data file but unfortunately it made no difference. I tried exporting my data over the last year and importing into a new file, but that didn't help either.

Any help understanding what's happening would be greatly appreciated.

I just tried this in several checking accounts, credit card accounts and other assets.

NONE experienced what you're showing. They all showed no transactions at all.

You might try the "silly string" search again, but without any numbers in the string.

If you've still got the issue, I'd suggest that you go thru File Validation and then SuperValidation again. BE SURE to take a backup before doing any of this.

    Validate:

    1. File
    2. Validate and Repair File...
    3. Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

If the issue persists, proceed to Super Validate. If the issue is resolved after performing validation, then please disregard the instructions to Super Validate.

    Super Validate:

    1. File
    2. Hold CTRL + Shift and click Validate and Repair File...
    3. Super Validate File
    4. Click OK
    5. Close the Data Log
    6. Close Quicken (leave it closed for at least 5 secs)
    7. Reopen Quicken and see if the issue persists.

Thanks very much for your response.

Good thought about the numbers, but it occurs no matter the search string. Even for valid searches that match existing transactions, I am always presented with the opening balance:

I tried both validating and super validating per your suggestion. Neither showed any errors and the problem unfortunately persists.

Well, I decided to try with a fresh start.

I created a new completely new Quicken with just a cash on hand account and it still happens:

I still receive the popup about recording a transfer back into the same account when trying to clear the search as well:

I thought perhaps it was an issue with my Quicken installation. So I removed it, rebooted, and re-installed. It still happens.

So I decided to try on another computer. I've been using a Windows 11 computer, but have an older Windows 10 that I haven't used in a while (and never installed Quicken on before). I installed it on this older machine and continue to experience the issue.

I'm not sure what else I can do at this point? It's very disconcerting, and makes me nervous about whether there's an underlying issue/bug that might become more problematic in the future. But I guess I just need to learn to live with it.

Just wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing this on Windows?
