Balance column disappeared

I am on a Mac using Sonoma 14.1.6 and am using Quicken for Mac 2015 2.9.7. I do NOT import to my bank but only use it to balance the checkbook. My column AMOUNT has disappeared. The column is blank ONLY on my checking, not my savings or cash account. There is only one checking account. The balance is checked in the column setting. I think I have just inadvertently scrolled over something to delete the amount. I did this previously earlier this year and the assistant got the amount figure back. Quicken Help cannot help me as I am no longer supported. However, I now cannot figure what I did.

Try clicking the DATE column heading to put the register in date order. And not filtered. If it’s sorted by something else the balance column might not show.

Actually, in QMac, the balance column will not disappear if the register isn't sorted by date. Instead, it will be shown in light gray italic font.

More than likely what happened is that you are looking at a group register instead of the actual individual account. Balance columns are not available in group registers. If the group register (for example Checking) has only one account within it, and if it is collapsed, it will appear to be the actual account, but be lacking the Balance column.

To make sure individual accounts are displayed in the sidebar, click the three dot (…) icon at the top of the sidebar, then click Expand All Sidebar Groups. This will reveal the individual account(s) within the groups. Click on the individual account and you'll see your Balance column.

You can collapse or expand any specific account group by clicking the v or > symbol to the left of the group name when you hover your cursor over the name.

Also, your topic title says the Balance column is missing so that's what I addressed. If it's actually the Amount column that's missing, you can restore that by clicking the Columns button on the task bar at the bottom of the screen (or menu View > Columns). Make sure you don't have so many columns that the Amount (or Balance) column is scroll horizontally off screen. If your screen isn't wide enough to show all the columns, either shrink some column widths by dragging the divider between column headers, or simply scroll the window horizontally. You can also get a little more horizontal space by dragging the divider between the sidebar and the register pane, or you can minimize the sidebar by clicking the

icon at the top right of the sidebar.
