Loan payment disconnect
Current version of Quicken for Windows (R58.9)
I have three active loans and the following problem occurs in two of them. The loan itself shows (incorrectly) one or more extra payments throwing off the loan balance. My checking account register shows (correctly) one payment per month
If I right-click | "Go to matching transfer" on the two identical transaction in the loan page, one takes me the single checking account transaction, but the other results in an error message that says "The transfer transaction is to an account that no longer exists in Quicken" which is patently false…there have been no account deletions in years. It's clearly a bad pointer and I can't seem to get rid of it
The question is, how do I fix this the "right" way to get the loan balance correct? Quicken won't let me delete the faulty one which doesn't link to any "real" transaction, and if I delete the correct one it screws up my checking account balance. For now I have deleted the "good" one that links to my checking account, and then re-inserted a checking account transaction that doesn't point back to the loan, but that's such a kludge.
Ideas?
Thanks!

What happens when you try to delete the erroneous txn?
Have you tried Validating your Q data file? Take a backup and then File, Validate and Repair.

Per my post, Quicken throws the error ("The transfer transaction is to an account that no longer exists in Quicken") and won't delete it.
As for validation, no I haven't. I'll try that next

Validation fixed the issue with the goofy transactions. I could delete them and replace them with proper ones.
Thanks!
