The report function is very poor. Quicken has so much information. It is a shame you can’t do more with it.

I would like to compare my expenses by month, by category for a year. This seems impossible. Also compare investment accounts by month for a year. Once again not possible.

For your expense comparison, have you tried the report at Reports > Comparison > Income and Expense by Category? Set the Date range to Last 12 months, Column to Month, and Compart to: to Prior year period. Use the scroll bar at the bottom to see the whole report.

For Investment accounts, try Reports > Net Worth & Balances > Account Balances. Set the Date range to Last 12 months and the Interval to Month. Click on the gear at the top right to select the accounts and securities to include. To see the value of the securities in each investing account, select Account Detail on the Display tab.

Please let us know if these work for you, or if you want something different.

wow - thanks for the help - I use Quicken Premier. I don’t see the part where you say “Column by Month”

I have attached where I am in doing your process. Could you help me find this - this is where I am stuck -

    Thanks again

You are looking at a different report than the one I recommended.

In the top Quicken menu that begins with "File", click on Reports.

In the list that opens, click on Comparison

Choose the Income and Expense Comparison by Category report. That is the report I was referring to.

The report that opens has a "Column:" selection. Click on the arrow in the box to the right of that and select Month, and make the other selections I suggested above.

This will get me started and I may have a couple more questions.

    Thanks again
