Quicken OFTEN provides incorrect closing price data for stocks.
Quicken continues to provide incorrect closing price data for stocks. This has been an ongoing issue for years, but has recently been occurring much more frequently!
See attached screenshots for example of data downloaded on 9/27/24 showing incorrect closing price for PAYX on 9/26. In order to troubleshoot this issue, I suggest that you also make note of the incorrect "Volume" data being provided, because in EVERY case when Quicken has provided incorrect "Closing Price", the "Volume" data provided is ALLWAYS LOWER than the correct amount. This probably means that the closing price provided by Quicken was captured BEFORE the end of the daily trading session.
Shown below are some additional recent examples of the same issue: (I can not provide screen shots of these examples, since I already manually corrected the data Quicken provided.
On 9/24, Quicken showed incorrect closing price for PAYX. I corrected it MANUALLY in Quicken.
On 9/23, Quicken showed incorrect closing prices for JNJ, WU, & O. I corrected them MANUALLY in Quicken.
On 9/20, Quicken showed incorrect closing price for PAYX. I corrected it MANUALLY in Quicken.
On 9/12, Quicken showed incorrect closing price for KO. I corrected it MANUALLY in Quicken.
Why does this issues need to be fixed?:
Obviously, if the closing price Quicken provided is incorrect, the total Account Values/Market Values & the Day Changes Values being provided by Quicken will also be incorrect. This would then require your Customers to research why the Account Values/Market Values & the Day Changes Values Quicken provided do not match the data being provided by our Brokers. Once verified that the Broker provided closing price and day change data is correct, your customers then need to manually correct the data Quicken provided. This is time consuming and very tedious.
While I fully understand that Quicken uses closing price data provided to them from a 3rd party, based on the underreported Daily Volume information Quicken provides, I believe that Quicken is probably capturing (and reporting) the closing price data before the end of the trading session. If this is the case, Quicken can, and should, correct this situation. If this is not the case, then Quicken should utilize a different 3rd party source that can provide accurate data.
Thanks in advance for Quicken' s attention to this matter, and look forward to Quicken' s response.
