Quicken update deletes all history

The latest update (R59.6, 27.1.59.6) appears to do a complete fresh install and loses all the settings. As a result if you haven't put your quicken files in the default location you will loose everything. I was able to restore from my deleted files and I'm checking to see how much I still need to repair, but heads up everyone, this update is a killer.

I updated 2 computers to R59.6 and didn't lose anything nor were settings effected. Note that I don't use "Mobile and Web" in case that could make a difference??

And where, if I may ask, have you put your Quicken data files? What's the folder name?

The default location is the Documents folder. I set up Quicken to use a separate Quickens folder under my Users folder. When I ran the upgrade it deleted my Quickens folder and created a new one with no data in the Documents folder. Fortunately, I was able to restore the original folder from the Recycle Bin and reset Quicken to use my folder rather than the one in Documents.

@retird Yes, I'm a long-time user as well, since the early '90s, so it was a bit of a shock to open Quicken and have no data.

I'm using Quicken Classic Business & Personal.

@Hiveman are you using Windows 11? I did a bit more checking to refresh my memory and my backup is set to: C:\Users\username\OneDrive\Documents\Quicken\BACKUP\Financial xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.

I have never activated One Drive thus One Drive is a folder created by Win 11. When I go to C:/users/username/documents it is vacant. When I go to above link it is populated.

@retird, Yes, this is exactly why I set up a separate folder for Quicken. I don't mind having notes on fencing estimates in the cloud, but I have no interest in sharing my account information with the next hacker who breaks into OneDrive.

@Hiveman at any rate a Q update should not erase settings or backups. In all my years with Q this is the first event like this I recall having been made aware of. Glad you are back in business….. If this event is not a 1-off Q should address quickly. I wonder how, and why, the folder would up in the Recycle Bin by doing an update or reinstall of Q…..

Yep I too want nothing significant in the cloud.
