What is this and can I do something to clean it up?

I have an investment in VFTAX, however, Quicken has downloaded tons of this same security into my investment window, and I cannot seem to be able to merge them or clean up this mess!

This mess stems from a Bank of America investment account that I do not have access to the transactions screen. I think my only option is to disconnect it and manage it manually, but that is dumb too considering the connectivity I have and the capabilities of Quicken.

You can try merging all those securities into one but it's going to be a long process. You select any two of them, right click on them, and then select "Merge Securities" from the pop-up menu. Keep doing that until you've combined them all into the last one with the correct symbol & name. Unfortunately it won't let you merge more than two at a time. Of course there's no guarantee that this will be permanent - you could wind up getting them all back again the next time you update. You might try merging a few of them and then seeing if they come back when you update before doing the rest.

    Thanks Jon,

I tried, but unfortunately, I get a message saying the securities must be of the same type. However, if I go and edit the type from "Other" to "Mutual Fund" it will allow me to merge the two. It will be a long process but I think I will try and fix this. Unfortunately, I think they will keep piling on as time goes on…I may disconnect the account and see what that does, but still if Quicken tries to update the price it may cause more similar mayhem.

Ok so I got this mess cleaned up by following the process above…anyone have any idea on why Quicken did this to start with??
