Quicken2007 Backup Strategy
I use QuickenWindows2007 for pretty basic stuff: personal checking & savings, charge card and investment accounts. I know it's old, but so am I. I don't have a financial background and don't do anything complicated.
When I backup Quicken I add a suffix to show date & any special notation (if appropriate). I accumulate several backups. For instance, before and after some sort of "special event"; like reconciling Vanguard statements, which give me extra heartburn and I've been known to really screw things up and have to revert back and start over. I also backup to my D-drive (not an external drive). Periodically (not often enough) I copy the last backup to an external drive and delete the out-of-date backups from my D-drive.
Sometimes (not sure if always), the next time I run Quicken after that I'm presented with "Welcome to Quicken 2007" and 2 choices:
* "I am already a Quicken user" . . . I've forgotten why this doesn't work.
* "Locate a file already on this computer" . . . I navigate to the most recent backup folder and choose the QDF file. Then Quicken works normally.
In Quicken, by clicking "File" (top, left), among other things, 4 files are listed. Currently, #1 is D:\My Documents\Quicken\Q-Backups\2024-10-26 B4\JAR-2024-09-01 QDF_20241026. I reconciled my Visa statement on 2024-10-26. Today I restored the backup and re-reconciled (long story, why). Then I backed up to D:\My Documents\QUICKEN\Q-BACKUPS\2024-10-30 VisaReDo.
Maybe I should backup to a constant name and then copy it to Backup-Backup folder totally outside of Quicken. Maybe I should never accumulate more than 4 backups.
Any suggestions?
