Currently, Quicken Mac does a terrible job calculating gains and losses for mutual funds. It's been terrible since inception. You cannot use Quick to tell you how well any mutual fund has performed over any but the smallest period of time (like 1 month). The biggest underlying cause is that it treats reinvested dividends and gains as new investments. I get it, it's hard to do well.

What would be more valuable would be to get an idea of how much the account or asset value is growing or shrinking over set time periods. That is, to basically give me the number I get by swiping my mouse across the graph for set periods of time. But to also let me look at that number as it applies to each type of security. So, for example, if I bought a $1,000 mutual fund that paid 1/2% every month and reinvested each payment, then the asset % change for 1 year would be 6% gain. Doing so at the account level would even capture non-reinvested dividends (e.g., ETFs), as long as they stayed in the account.
