SOLVED: Dashboard is blank

In Quicken Classic Deluxe R59.35, my dashboard is blank. I have done the following:

  1. Validated data file
  2. Super validated data file
  3. Reinstalled Quicken after removing then rebooting.

None of these actions fixed the problem. I sent a report with logs but no one got back to me.

Solution found on 11/26/2024: If you change the Windows short date format from its default of "mm/dd/yyyy," it causes this problem of Quicken not being able to create dashboard. It really is a bug in Quicken because it cannot handle any other short date format than the default without failing to display. I had set my short data format to "ddd mm/dd/yyyy" so that it would display the day of week on the Windows taskbar. More generally, if you are having this problem check the regional settings in Windows:

  • The "Short Date" has to be set to mm/dd/yyyy
  • Language should be set to English (United States)
  • Region should be set to the United States
  • Time Zone should match the customer's location

Interestingly, changing the short date format from the default also causes the security charting function in Fidelity's Active Trader Pro software to fail!

Here is the Reddit post that helped me solved the display problem in Quicken Classic and Active Trader Pro: https://www.reddit.com/r/fidelityinvestments/comments/17kesmc/active_trader_pro_chart_problem/

    Hello @amydonj,

Thank you for sharing the troubleshooting steps you have attempted so far as well as letting us know that you submitted a problem report. Please note, that as stated at the top of the Report a problem window, you will not receive a direct response through these submissions. However, they will be reviewed for investigative purposes.

Aside from the troubleshooting steps you have tried so far, can you please confirm where on your computer your data file is located? Is it in your local hard drive (C: drive), or do you by chance have it saved in a cloud-based location?

Check back and let us know! Thank you.

    Hi Anja,

I fixed the problem and edited my original post with the solution. You should submit a bug report that Quicken "HOME/Dashboard" code cannot parse anything other than the Windows short date format: "mm/dd/yyyy." If you change the short date format to "ddd mm/dd/yyyy" in Windows regional settings like I did to add the day-of-week, you can replicate the bug.

Thanks for getting back quickly to me.

    Don
