Online Payment

Long time windows user now using MAC. Before using my windows version I could use a tool called Online Payment which would send a message to my direct connection US Bank account to pay a credit card bill. It did not use Quicken's bill paying system, instead the Bank would do it on my instruction and it didn't cost me anything. Now that I've switched to MAC I can't find this process and only see the Quicken Bill Pay Service that does cost. Am I missing something or do I have to go about this in a different way?

First you need to make sure the account is set up as Direct Connect. Right click on the account in the sidebar and then Account Settings. Under Downloads, check that the connection type is Direct Connect (not Quicken Connect). If it's not, then click the Change Connection button to change it to Direct Connect.

When I look at available US Bank account options, I see this:

It would seem that the first one would be the one you want. Then when you set up the connection, you need to select Direct Connect as the connection type:

I do see this available for this bank selection. You may need to click the Advanced button to see the connection option.

Once you've confirmed the account is set up as Direct Connect, then for each payee, open the payee's settings in the Payees & Rules Window (Payees tab). Then check the Bills & Income Payee box, click the Bank Bill Pay tab and enter the required info:

Then to pay a bill, you will create a new transaction, enter "Send" in the Check# field, fill in the rest of the transaction details. When done, click Accounts > Update Selected Online Account to transmit the payment to the bank.

Rick appreciate the tip. I originally had direct connect but lost the ability to confirm I was connected so switched to quicken connect so I could see the bank listed while downloading and i didn't observe any transactional downloads. Maybe I was just impatient. I'll go back to direct connect and give it a try.

Yes, there is no ability to use Bank Bill Pay unless you are connected with Direct Connect.

Rick I'm lost. Where is the Payee Rules window or page? I found the Payees & Rules window, but can't find anything that is close to the window you show above. Sorry to be a pain.

Well I'm still lost. I found bill pay as a tab under the setup for direct connect. But it only tells me it's enabled and gives me a tab to learn more that takes me to a help section on the web. Still can't find the Payee Rules window that matched what you show above.

Took me a while but I found it. Boy this is different than the windows version. Still a little unsure that all my connections are working. I guess I'll know next week when hopefully all my account including my stock accounts will update.

Glad you're finding what you need. If you do Accounts > Update All Online Accounts, the Connection Status window should open when it's done to show you that all the accounts connected (or any errors), even if there are no new transactions to download. If it doesn't open, you can find it in the Window menu.
