Column Width

I just "moved" into a new computer and as part of the process I decided to do a clean install including reviewing all of the settings in Quicken.

I eventually got to the point where I reconfigured / reset the registers column width because I moved from a 16" computer to a 14" computer.

I prefer all the columns width to be of the same width as it is visually more pleasing when moving from account to account as I often do (as I tack both personal accounts and corporate accounts).

In most of my accounts the first two leftmost registry entries are Date and Check #.

In some accounts — credit card accounts, etc, — there is no Check # registry column.

To address this difference I tried to make the Date column width the same as the (Date and Check # column) width but could not do so as the Date field seems to have a maximum column width.

Would appreciate the following:

— Any known fix / workaround for this (other than the obvious which is to reduce the width of the Date and Check # combination to that of the Date width maximum)?

— What is the rationale for limiting the width, especially when can make the sidebar appear / disappear so easily?

Thank you.

For CC accounts, you can add a Reference # column that functions the same as the Check # column.

Or for those accounts, I include both the Transaction date and the Posting date. That might be better visually than a fully blank Ref# column.

@q_lurker, excellent suggestion, I will try that late today / tomorrow.
