Dashboard analysis numbers are wrong

I don't often look at the investing dashboard, but today I decided to check it out. What I found was that the values for my investment accounts are wrong. For example, on the "portfolio value vs. cost basis" graph, my current portfolio value is shown to be considerably less than what it is.

To investigate what might be going wrong, I looked at the dashboard view. For "All Accounts", I see the same incorrect total from the "value vs cost basis" graph. If I use the drop-down at the top to view one account at a time, I see that NONE of the account values in the dashboard match the actual account values shown in the "Accounts" sidebar (totals in sidebar are correct). In fact, at least two accounts show "no data" in the dashboard, despite the fact that there's plenty of data in Quicken.

Can anyone help me understand what's going wrong? I've already checked the investment preferences to make sure I'm not hiding any transactions, etc. Seems like either Quicken is malfunctioning in a big way, or there's something about these reports that's totally counterintuitive to me.

Thanks for any help.

I do not place too much value on the Dashboard cards on a Home tab and even less on the Investing tab Dashboard. They both seem to be lacking in customization and clarity - and quite possibly accuracy as you are indicating. I tend to use the Portfolio section of the Investing Tab much more often.

Despite that criticism, I am not seeing any problems with my Investing tab Dashboard cards at this time. I started with All Accounts, All Securities. The Value card, the Portfolio by security card, and the Value over Time card all matched the Account bar summation on my left. Cycling through the applicable accounts also produced matching values for each account.

I note in your -093451 screenshot your setting is for 202 securities rather than all. Is there a particular reason for that?

I do not find a Dashboard card on either tab for 'Portfolio value vs Cost basis'. I do find that graph in the Performance section of the Investing Tab. Is that the graph you are referencing? That graph uses the same account and security selection as the Dashboard section.

Whenever I am trying to track down a discrepancy in these types of Quicken presentations, I work either from most complete to more specific or from most specific to broader. By that I mean possibly starting with all accounts and all securities, then narrowing things down. Or starting with perhaps one account and one security that I know is being correctly shown, then adding to it. For portfolio views, I can also vary the time frame but the other four section of the investing tab do not offer that time control.

@q_lurker, thanks for the reply. Looks like you hit the nail on the head about the 202 securities. I had assumed that Quicken filled that in automatically and that it represented all the securities. But I changed the dropdown to "All securities" and — voila — the totals are looking correct. Thanks!

Oh, and just to clear things up, I was referring to the "Investing" tab in Quicken, which has "Dashboard" and "Performance" sub-tabs, the latter of which has the "portfolio vs cost basis" graph — just as you said in your second paragraph.

    Thanks again.
