Export Quicken data to a new Quicken Account

I want to create a new Quicken Account and import just this year's data and start over fresh with new chart of accounts (categories, tags, groups) . I find it daunting to try to change the Category and Tag lists with many years worth of data. I want to easily have my old data readily available for reports and documentation.

Your help would be appreciated.

A "Quicken account" can refer to 2 things … a single account (such as checking or credit card) in your Q data file,

OR it can refer to your account at Quicken.com.

It sounds like you're actually trying to start a new Q data file … BUT WHY? A smaller file won't improve Q's performance in any meaningful way, and you can Close/Hide accounts and categories you no longer need.

Reporting and searching are confined to the open Quicken Data file. So if you run an "expense" report, in your new file, you'll only get expenses since Jan 1. If you switch and open your "archive" file and run the same report, you'll only get expenses up to Dec 31.

My qdata file dates back to 2001. I've had a fair amount of category changes over the years. Some split, some combine, many just reassigned.

There are "tools" to help make mass changes. You can use Find/Replace under Edit. I tend to use a report. If I run an "expense by category" report over a long or custom period, old categories may appear. If you click on the overall total dollar value (all the way to the right), you'll see the details for the entire range. You can then select all of them (or any individual ones), right mouse click and pick from the menu that includes recategorize, retag, rename and even edit memos.
