Unable to Link to Newly Transitioned Vanguard Account for Transaction Dowloading

We have recently transitioned two exisiting Vanguard accounts onto their brokerage platform (each gets a new account number). Following directions from an earlier post, getting the first (an IRA mutual fund account) set up in Quicken and linked for transaction downloads from Vanguard went fine.

However a problem with the second, brokerage, account—I added the account in Quicken using the "add account" function, but in attempting to establish transaction downloading via direct connect with Vanguard, this transitioned account does not appear on the list of our Vanguard accounts eligible for transaction downloading into Quicken.

Vanguard was absolutely NO HELP. They suggested adding the account without downloading capability (manual updating), then after the account appears on the account list, select "activate downloads"… The problem is we still end up with a list of 6 Vanguard accounts eligible for transaction downloading, but the list does not include our newly transitioned account on the brokerage platform.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Tell us a bit more about the recalcitrant account. What's different about it? What type of account is it? Does Vanguard view it as a Business account?

Vanguard is forcing everyone to migrate ("transition") their accounts on their investment platform onto a newer "brokerage" platform, created sometime after the investment platform. Not sure when, but all 5 of our Vanguard accounts were on the older investment platform, 2 recently transitioned, 3 yet to be transitioned.

The two accounts of ours which were transitioned last October are an IRA account containing mutual funds, and a brokerage account containing stock shares.

As I said above, following steps outlined by someone on this site I was able to set up the transitioned IRA account in Quicken, and download transactions in that accountfrom Vanguard into Quicken. In setting up the account, I linked it to our pre-transitioned IRA account, such that all transactions dating back to 1993 now appear in the transitioned account.

The problem account is a brokerage account. In attempting to establish that transitioned account in Quicken and set up transaction dowloads, it (the transitioned account number) does not appear in the list of account numbers Vanguard offers for linkage/download into Quicken.

I might note that after more foot stomping, Vanguard indicated that they will look into this further. Their first suggestion basically described how to setup and link and account in Quicken.

Thank you for any help you can offer. I will post any resolution offered by Vanguard.

I've been through that transition process with Vanguard completing the process last May for several accounts. As I think you are doing, I deactivated the existing MF accounts and then was able to link the new Brokerage accounts to the same accounts I had been using for years.

As best I recall, the only issue I had was that Vanguard offered more accounts than I wanted (the opposite of your case). I had to figure out which account Vanguard identified by last four of the account number (..1234) related to my named account in Quicken (My Roth IRA, etc.). Once I got that set of associations made, I believe it all went smoothly.

Is it possible that there is a log-in ID issue? That is, I can log into Vanguard under my ID and I get access to more accounts than logging in under my spouse's ID. Your new brokerage account is under a different ID or your Quicken access to the Vanguard accounts is using a different ID.
