I vacation to another location for 3 months/year. I use Quicken on my desktop 9 months and would like to use Quicken on my laptop for 3 months/year. What is the best/easiest/most fail proof way to do this.

Your subscription allow you to install your Quicken Classic Deluxe software onto multiple computers for no additional cost. So, make sure you have it installed and updated to the current version on both your laptop and your desktop when before you take off on vacation and upon arrival home.

Then it is a fairly simple matter to move your data file between the computers. Following is the Support Article that will walk you through that process: https://www.quicken.com/support/how-do-i-move-my-quicken-data-file-one-computer-another/ .

I keep my Quicken data file on Microsoft OneDrive (previously in Dropbox) and yes I know Quicken doesn't recommend it. I have running this way for many years with no issues. I keep my OneDrive files local on my computer and pause syncing while using Quicken. I use the file on my home computer and my work computer.

Yes, if one is very careful and follows the specific process very consistently each and every time, Cloud storage sites (like MS OneDrive and Dropbox) can be used like this without corrupting the data file.

But all it takes is one slip up to cause data corruption which can sometimes be non-recoverable. Just search through this forum for all the people who have posted "I've been doing this for years without issue" and end up singing the blues.

Obviously, everyone needs to make their own decision on whether or not to have their data file on a Cloud storage site but they should know that there are some very real risks when doing this which is why Quicken does not recommend it. There are other methods for accomplishing the transfer of the data file which involves far less risk and yet are very simple.
