There's an annoying new screen that comes up when you click Reconcile in QMac

After Reconcile You can click "Do not show this screen again" but it comes back every time. Like the Sorcerer's apprentice. Can this be fixed please.

    How about posting a screenshot so we know which screen you're referring to?

    Also, are you reconciling to a statement or to the online balance? Or is this screen showing up before you get to that choice?

    Hi Jon. When I click Reconcile I get this unnecessary screen telling me what reconciling means. And I can't make it stop. I can continue past it, so this is not a catastrophe or anything but it is an annoyance. You?

    That screen doesn't sound familiar at all. I tried selecting Reconcile on a few account just now & it went straight to the Reconcile window each time.

    I am in Canada

    however I do not see why this would be a factor, the US and the Canadian are the same, when you look under settings you will see that you can choose US, Canada or both

    But as I said above after a few attempts to "not show again", selecting and de-selecting , it stopped showing

    The other thing I can add, that might have created the problem, is that I created a "key shortcut" for "Reconcile Account…" through Apple System Settings, Keyboard, App shortcuts.

    Have you ? can this have trigger the problem,

    I have not seen this screen (or at least don't remember seeing it). That may be because I've been using QMac for years. As Stephen wrote, it may stop after a few times, so maybe invoke reconcile a dozen times or so and see if it stops.

    I also launch reconcile using a custom keyboard shortcut, so I don't think that's the issue.

    You could test the Canada thing by creating a new small Quicken file, setting it to US, and see if it happens there. But I doubt this is the issue either.

    Finally, there's the possibility that your Quicken Preferences file is corrupted and so the checkbox to not show it again is not sticking. The Prefs file is located at /Users/(username)/Library/Preferences/com.quicken.Quicken.plist To open the user Library folder, hold down the option key while clicking the Go menu in the Finder.

    There's an entry in the Plist "NotFirstReconcile". I'm guessing that's the item that controls whether the dialog is presented. You can open (a copy) of the Plist file in TextEdit and search for this entry. It will look like this:

    <key>NotFirstReconcile</key>
    <true/>

    If it says "false" instead of "true", that's likely the issue. You could change it and replace the plist with the modified file (making sure you have an original copy in case anything goes wrong). But if the file's corrupted that might not stick. In that case, make a copy of the plist file (say on your desktop), then (with Quicken not running), delete the plist from the library preferences folder. Quicken will create a new one when it launches. You'll have to reset a few settings, but this may solve the issue. Most settings (eg. register columns, etc) are stored in Quicken file, so there won't be that many that need to be reset. Only those that are not file-specific.

    You could also try unchecking that checkbox and clicking Start. Complete a reconciliation, then start a new one and re-check the box. Complete a reconciliation, and then start another new one. Sometimes toggling the setting for a preference like this will get it to stick going forward.
