Vanguard CashPlus

Vanguard CashPlus is an account with a money market holding, and a settlement account. Payments are taken from the settlement account balance. Quicken sets it up as two accounts, a "Cash" account for the settlement balance, and a brokerage account for the Money Market balance. When downloading transactions, the payments work fine from the Cash account. However, the brokerage account then shows a downloaded transaction for the same amount, which you have to delete (as a response to a June thread on this subject states). A bit annoying. In addition, monthly dividends for the settlement accounts post in both accounts, as a withdrawal in the cash account (should be a deposit), and a transaction to be deleted in the brokerage account.

Anyone figured out a way to remedy this nuisance of having to delete the brokerage account transactions?

    Hello @RickQuick,

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Has this behavior been occurring since you initially set up the accounts, or did it start more recently? If it’s a recent change, do you recall when it began? Additionally, does this happen with all payments and dividends, or only certain transactions?

If possible, could you also share a link to the June discussion you referenced?

    Thank you!

    Been happening since day 1.

This happens with all payments from the settlement account, which also show up in the brokerage component, as well as the monthly dividend, which as I said shows up wrong in the settlement account as an expense.

There are 1/2 dozen threads on this, none resolving anything.

FWIW, Quicken does not set up Vanguard Cash Plus as 2 accounts. The account is established as a brokerage account. A user can create a cash account if selecting show cash in a linked checking account in account details. Vanguard initially downloads a holding for the Cash amount as if it were a MMF but thereafter inconsistently treats it as cash or MMF.

Vanguard is creating a bad download file for certain cash plus transactions. Quicken then displays the garbage being sent. If you actually have separate accounts rather than a brokerage with a linked checking account, you need to correct that.
