the report does NOT show a total line for a category with only 1 transaction. BAD !

i do a report of Transactions by Category

i do view > expand all

I export to excel

i filter by the column that contains date so that I can basically toggle between summary of Total for each category or an expansion of all the transactions for that category

PROBLEM - quicken report is INCONSISTENT in that it outputs a "total line" (without a date ) for all categories except the ones that had only a single entry!

the fact that there is no total line (without a date) makes it impossible for me to filter and be able to expand/collapse the categories in excel.

Is there a workaround or other way to do this? even if there is , i think this needs to be fixed so that report format is consistent

Quicken Mac doesn't have an Export to Excel option for reports. It does have Export to CSV, but I see no problems with that exporting categories with only a single transaction.

Perhaps you meant to complain over in the Windows forum?

no , I meant to complain here. 😀

I am talking about the export to csv (same issue will propagate to the downstream xls file)

the problem is the way Quicken implemented the formatting of the report.

please reread my description quicken is INCONSISTENT in the formatting and thus makes it difficult to 'key off of' expected fields in the report.

when there is only a single transaction for a category ,the report doesn't include a separate line for total . most accounting practices and banking, brokerages would be consistent to have EACH category or an item to either include a summary line for total or NOT include the line. its bad practice and creates a headache to arbitrarily add a summary line

I think it should be fixed

OK, I see what you mean now. Yes, there's no Total line if there's just a single transaction in a Category. Also, if a Category has multiple subcategories and only one of the subcategories has transactions, then the Category will not have a total in that case either (but the subcategory will as long as it had multiple transactions).

I don't think there's any way that you can get those totals added.

As for getting this changed, you can use the "Report a Problem" option on the Help menu, or you can make a post over on the Product Idea forum for Reports to suggest that categories & subcategories should always have a Total line.
