convert a brokerage account to an IRA account crashes Quicken

Member ✭✭

I have realized that one of my accounts was not assigned correctly as an IRA account type and want to convert from the existing brokerage account type. I have performed the conversion several times with all attempts crashing Quicken and the account remains identified as a brokerage account. I have several years of transactions and would like to keep the history of this account.

Try resetting the Show cash option to No and then the conversion. Generally, that option is not available for IRA-type accounts.

Explain how you are doing this conversion so that someone can see if you are doing it wrong or suggest a better method.

I suspect the OP has a brokerage account set to tax deferred, which exposes a button on the Account Details to convert to 401(k) or IRA. Clicking that button triggers the crash.

Account is setup as a brokerage account with "tax deferred" to Yes and "Show cash in a checking account" as a Yes as well. Also set is the tracking method as Complete (position and transactions). to begin the process i change the "Show cash in a checking account" to No and I see the selection to "Convert to 401k/IRA/529". Once I select this conversion Quicken crashes.

Yup, that worked! Thank you. Changing the cash option first and then the conversion was the right sequence… guess doing both "simultaneously" is not a viable solution.
