Unfixable validation and repair messages.

All of a sudden I started getting validation errors. While a super validation got rid of some errors the few remaining do not get fixed. I even used a data file from a few days ago that I know did not have any errors at the time but they get them too. Anyone have any ideas on fixing them?

Here they are:

Interesting… After the reinstall my tax categories now show the tax schedules they are linked to. All is good now.

I fixed the first error, the "Not Sure, Biz" entry by deleting it. Kind of a weird category don't you think? Can't seem to delete the remaining ones with the underscore in front of them. Still looking for suggestions to get them fixed.

    Hello @streetwolf,

Thank you for reaching out to the Community with this issue. Per this article on editing and deleting categories, you're not able to delete or edit them because they are predefined categories used by Quicken.

You mentioned you are seeing this while Validating/Super Validating your file. Were you running the validation to troubleshoot an issue? If so, was that issue corrected, or is it persisting? How long has this been happening? Since Quicken doesn't allow editing or deleting those categories, you may need to try restoring a backup from before the issue started.

I look forward to your reply!

I wasn't trying to resolve any Quicken issue. I periodically do a validate/repair so I don't carry over errors to my backups. In this case I restored a few backups a week or so ago that I know for sure did not have these or any other errors. It is strange that they are showing up now and with supposedly clean backups.

The only change I made to my system, Windows 11, is I did a repair install which basically reinstalls Windows 11 while keeping all of my settings, applications, and drivers. I did this for a problem I was having with Microsoft Defender Antivirus which did fix this problem. Perhaps installing Windows 11 this way just brought these Quicken errors out in the open.

The error report says they were fixed yet I get the same errors every time I do a validate and even a super validate. Should they concern me? I am thinking of uninstalling Quicken and reinstalling it to see if that fixes things. What do you think?

Do the tax lines show correctly now? I am assuming this is what the validate was trying to correct in saying "category tax reference".

Are you tracking investments using these types of transactions? Do the right transactions and values appear in tax schedule reports?

If you don't see real issues with the way your data is being presented, I'd not get too worked up over these validation reports — but I would keep a watchful eye on everything.

Where did you get the list you provided? The category list for my tax-related investments don't show the schedules next to the check mark like yours do. In fact when I click on the check mark for any category entry, not just the ones in the error messages, it displays "no tax line item displayed."

Any way I can see if these errors are causing any harm?

Problem solved. I downloaded the latest Quicken and reinstalled it. When I did a validate it found a few similar errors but not the same ones. However, this time it did indeed correct them. Subsequent validates show no errors. Might have been my reinstall of Windows 11 for some reason. I'm going to keep my eyes open for any future similar problems.
