Very high disk activity for several minutes after starting Quicken

Lately, I have noticed extremely high disk activity for several minutes after I start Quicken. I can see this using the Task Manager. I have an SSD, so it's silent, but it does slow everything else down. I start up Quicken, add some entries, then try to login to a bank site, and the browser is almost frozen until Quicken is done doing whatever it is doing.

I think this started roughly with the R61 releases. I only seem to have noticed it over the past few weeks.

    Hello @andyross1,

    Thanks for bringing this up! I understand how frustrating it can be to experience slow performance and high disk activity, especially when trying to multitask.

    To help us investigate, can you let us know if this happens every time you start Quicken or only intermittently? Does the disk activity continue even if you don’t perform any actions after opening Quicken? Do you have many accounts set to update automatically at startup, as this could contribute to high resource usage? Have you recently made any changes to your Quicken file, such as adding new accounts or transactions?

    Additionally, could you submit your log files so I can review them? You can do this by navigating to Help > Report a Problem and including a brief description of the issue.

    Let me know what you find after trying these steps—I appreciate your patience, and we’ll work together to get this resolved!

    Further checking with Task Manager shows it is coming from QuickenPatch.exe. That starts up a little after starting Quicken itself, with no notice that an update has occurred, or is being done. Once it shuts down, everything is normal.

    Do you by chance have any antivirus/malware programs installed on your device?

    Let me know!

    The only Antivirus is the stock Microsoft Security for Windows 10.

    @andyross1 ,

    for me, this occurrence of the Quicken Update program running after I started Quicken appears to have been a one-time occurrence and happened only after a software update patch was installed.
    I'm assuming that the programmers designed this as a new way of cleaning or repairing the data file or introducing a database table layout upgrade … but somebody from Quicken would have to confirm or deny that for this specific event …

    Does the Update program still keep running every time you start Quicken and then run for several minutes? On my computer, this has gone away.

    This last time I did a test, and I didn't see it start up. I'm guessing either there is a small update that is only updating some background files, or it just runs occasionally to check things. There is some high CPU from the Microsoft Antimalware Module, probably scanning the 5500 files in \Program Data\Quicken as it loads.
