Multiple Issue with Adjusting Interest Rate for Mortgage

I always run into multiple issues when I have to adjust the interest rate of my variable rate mortgage in Quicken. Each time I make an interest rate adjustment, I typically run into some or all of the following:

  • There is a discrepancy between the amount of principal remaining, according to the bank, and according to Quicken; This I correct with a balance adjustment. This is typically a small amount.
  • Quicken will create two balance adjustments, one at the starting date of the mortgage and one at the current date. These are large adjustments equal to or nearly equal to the outstanding balance;
  • Quicken changes the account from which the funds are withdrawn from my main chequing account to one of my kid's accounts. I think it is picking the account that appears first in alphabetic order, but I have no idea why it loses track of which account the funds should be drawn from.

These issues are anything but new. I've had these issues for decades and have simply never got around to posting about them or pursuing a fix. However, the current economic situation is driving frequent interest changes in Canada, so having to fix these issues with every rate change has become tedious and time consuming.

I'm interested in hearing from anyone who has similar issues. I also keen to hear from anyone who can make interest rate changes to a variable rate mortgage in Quicken without running into these issues.
