Costco Citi Visa: Wrong payee name for Trader Joe's transactions

Question

Consistently, Quicken gives the wrong payee name for Trader Joe's transactions.  It's not always the same payee name but when I check my Costco Citi account, it's always a Trader Joe's transaction that has been misidentified.  Sound familiar to anyone?  Thanks.

The wrong payee that comes up seems to usually be my daughter's name.  (Seems like the last time there were two transactions on same day, one in store and one in TJ's liquor store.  One of the wrong payee was something other than my daughter, but I changed it and have since forgotten what it was.  Next time I will try to remember.)

To Jim Hartman:  My daughter's name is not in quotes.  I went ahead an unchecked "Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee."  Let's see if that cures the problem…or creates some new ones!😁

When Quicken gives you a wrong Payee, check to see if it is in "quotes". If so, that means that Quicken has applied one of your Renaming Rules. Go to Tools > Renaming rules and see if there is rule for that Payee that might match a downloaded Trader Joe's transaction. For example, if the wrong Payee is "Joe's Wine" you might have a rule that says Rename the downloaded Payee to Joe's Wine if the downloaded payee contains Joe's.

You can prevent this sort of confusion by making your renaming rules more specific.

The setup I have is to have no Renaming Rule for Trader Joe's and I leave the option at Edit > Preferences > Downloaded Transactions > Automatically apply Quicken's suggested name to payee enabled. For me this works reliably for Trader Joe's and many other Payees, but you may want to disable it because sometimes it gets other payees wrong.

What's a TJ transaction being misidentified to?

Is it possible that there is a Renaming Rule in effect which causes the incorrect Payee Name because the key word selection can apply to different transactions?
