investment account balances are off

Quicken Windows Subscription Member ✭✭

My investment account balances are off, probably because I didn't download for periods of time and missed price changes, etc.

How do I fix this? Please talk to me like I'm in kindergarten, because I don't understand investments very well. I wish I could just sync it somehow, but I don't know how to "plug" it.

I'm using Quicken Classic Business & Personal for Windows.

You haven't provided enough info for us to diagnose.

Are the securities held not in agreement with your brokerage statement?

Are the quantities held not in agreement with your statement?

Are the quotes (prices per share/unit) not in agreement?

Only you can diagnose this…but if you provide add'l info, we can direct your research.

And, in what manner are "the balances off"?

Intermediate price/quote changes don't matter. Only the final/current holdings and quotes matter.

The balances in Quicken do not match the balances when I log into my investment account. The dollar amounts are different.

I don't know how to check the quantities.

I don't know how to check the quotes.

If you can tell me where to find the quantities and prices within Quicken and how to fix these, that would be awesome.

    Hi Permutations,

If your porfolio market values or cash amounts are off it is because transaction were missed. To start reconciling the brokerage accounts open up the account in Quicken. Look for the button labeled Holdings. Press it and you will get a list and quantities of what quicken has for your portfolio. Next, you can start manually entering Adds or Removes transaction to sync up the individual stocks and their quantities. When you have those matching your portfolios, now click on cash balance on the quicken window for the account and an Update Cash Balance window will appear which can help you update the cash balance. This is the simplist way to reconcile your current brokerage account portfolio and cash balance. It will make it currently correct. Another alternative would be to try to find the missing transactions versus your brokerage statements, but if the problem has been going on for a long time, that could take forever to accomplish.
