Outdated/Incorrect Account Information (Citibank) on Quicken/Intuit Servers?

I just got this e-mail from Quicken -

Screenshot 2025-03-27 153422.png

Why did I get this notice?

I do not currently have a Citibank account or CC. I had a Best Buy Visa that was closed in November 2024. What is more concerning is that the last transaction for the account was in November 2022, and I haven't had any online connection with Quicken for this account for quite a while.

How long does Quicken/Intuit keep account information on their servers? If there is no online connection for an account and/or the account is closed, does Quicken/Intuit still have or keep account or financial information on their servers? Can I request this information to be removed?

@Boatnmaniac I was wanting a truthful, concise, and to the point answer. It seems like account and financial information is being stored indefinitely on Intuit/Quicken servers that don't need to be. It also seems like Intuit/Quicken is retaining this information even if the user tries to use Quicken without online services.

I could be wrong. That is why I wanted an answer about a notice for a closed account that didn't have online services activated for a while before it was closed.

Citi Retail Services is changing their connection method from EWC to EWC+. The the Announcement about this which lists all the different Citi retail cards that are impacted by this has been posted at Upcoming update for Citibank retail branded credit cards.

The reason why you are got this notice is because you still have one or more affected accounts in Quicken. Quicken/Intuit sees this and provided this popup notice.

You do not need to be concerned about being forced into this connection method change unless you have one or more accounts in Quicken that are on in the list in the Announcement that are still set up for downloading. If you have one of more of these cards that you are still downloading from you will be required to upgrade the connection method from EWC to EWC+ on or before Apr 2. If you do not upgrade the connection method you will no longer be able to download transactions for those cards.

If you have one or more of these cards in Quicken that you no longer download into you might want to do the following:

    • Are the account(s) closed in Quicken? If so, there is nothing more you need to do. The download connection has already been deactivated so they will not be affected. You can confirm the status of the accounts on the Display Options or Online Services tabs of Account Details.
    • Are the accounts still open in Quicken but you do not need to download into them any longer? If so, go to the Online Services tab of Account Details for each account in question and if you see the Deactivate button, click on it. That is all you need to do.

@Boatnmaniac please reread my questions and concerns. Your answer was totally off the mark.

The account has been closed on Quicken since November 2024. Online services were deactivated for this account the beginning of 2024.

Quicken is storing incorrect and outdated information somewhere in their network or servers. For them to send me a poorly written E-mail about changes I need to make for an account that was closed a while ago is concerning. Citibank shows the account as closed, so the incorrect and outdated information is somewhere with Quicken.

    @CaliQkn -

Why did I get this notice?

I did state "The reason why you got this notice is because you still have one or more affected accounts in Quicken. Quicken/Intuit sees this and provided this popup notice."

I suppose I should have stated that if you have ever had any Citi Retail Services CC that is open or closed in Quicken at any time, you would still have gotten this popup message. Quicken/Intuit retains financial institution information on all financial institutions that support Quicken and that we have accounts for in our data files, regardless of whether or not those accounts are open or closed.

If you want Quicken/Intuit to forget about your closed Citi Best Buy CC, then I'm pretty sure that you will need to delete that card from your data file as that would remove it from the Quicken/Intuit data base. I suspect you will not find this to be an acceptable solution because of the loss of historical data and perhaps messing up the register balances of other accounts that are linked to it via transfer transactions. I know that would be unacceptable for me.

The next best step is to simply disregard the notice. You should not be bothered by that popup, again, unless you checked the box to be reminded of it again the next time you open Quicken.

Your response totally missed the mark.

Did it? I don't think so. Your initial post did not say anything about when the account was closed in Quicken. You simply said the account was closed. That raised the question of whether it was simply closed in the online account or if it was also closed in Quicken. I designed my response so you could ascertain whether or not this popup message was really applicable to you and what you could do about it or whether you could simply ignore it.

I do not currently have a Citibank account or CC.

This comment from your original post implies that you have had Citi accounts or CCs in the past. You mentioned one (Best Buy) but never said this was the only one that you have ever had.

Many retail services cards (both Citi and other financial institutions) do not make it perfectly clear who the card issuer is nor who it is that manages the account online. I posted that Announcement link that lists all of the Citi CCs that are impacted by this change to help you in determining whether or not there were any other affected Citi CCs (whether still open or closed) in your Quicken data file.

And I then provided steps you could take to confirm whether or not you might want or need to take any action relative to this popup message.

@Boatnmaniac You are still way off base.

Your overly verbose answer is only making things worse. It detracts from the real issue.

The only ones that can effectively answer my question is Quicken. They could possibly answer why they sent a notice for a closed account and where this information came from.

But I don't really expect an answer.

Ah, I see you are one of those who simply wants to be argumentative and critical of others. You are posting in a users forum so you got a user's response to the questions you asked. If you had said you wanted technical support on this you would have been told you need to contact Quicken Support via Chat or Phone ( https://www.quicken.com/support/#contact-support ) for that.
