Hello @James114,
Thank you for coming to the Community with this question. To answer your question, you do need a subscription for online functionality and to get new updates to the Quicken program. However, depending on which subscription tier you have, there is still some functionality available after your subscription expires.
If you use Deluxe or higher versions of Quicken, then you can manually update your file after your subscription has expired. See our subscription FAQ for more details:
Please be aware that once your subscription expires, you will see banners reminding you to subscribe. The screenshot below is a sample of what one of those banners looks like (you can see more samples in the FAQ linked above):
If you use Quicken Starter, your file becomes read only once your subscription expires.
I hope this helps!

Can I install Deluxe without renewing my subscription?

Thank you for your reply,
When I check, it looks like you were previously subscribed using the Starter version of Quicken. If that is correct, then you would need to pay for at least one year of Quicken Deluxe (or higher) in order to have the Data Access Guarantee (which would allow you to update your information manually once the subscription expires).
If you were using a pre-subscription version of Quicken previously, and are trying to use that older version, then I'd recommend starting a new discussion outlining the difficulties you're encountering. While the pre-subscription versions are no longer supported, other users may be able to assist.
I hope this helps!
