Excluding Transactions from Budget in Quicken Classic Premier (Mac)

Quicken Mac Subscription Member

I regularly move savings funds between different institutions where I hold savings accounts. In doing so, the budget feature calculates this move between two savings accounts as an expense - for example the budget shows last month I had $50k of expenses which were not actual expenses, they were "transfers" between 2 "savings" accounts.

I've read online that you can select to "exclude" transactions by selecting the transaction and clicking the 3 dots, but my version doesn't have 3 dots to click. There is no "exclude" option by right clicking on the transaction. I also read a hack to "tag" the transactions as "exclude" and remove items with this tag from budge calculations, but my version doesn't allow this specificity (I can only select which categories and accounts to include).

Does anyone know of a workaround?

How are you recording the transfers in Quicken. If you're doing them as an actual Transfer transaction (with an account name in the transfer field), you can exclude those from the budget. Click the Edit Budget button, click the Select Categories button, scroll down to the Transfers section and uncheck all the transfer categories.

If you're not using the Transfer field to record the movement between accounts then Quicken doesn't know it's a transfer & will treat the withdrawal like any other expense. I don't know of a way to exclude individual transactions from a budget.
