Updating transactions results in program crash

Quicken for Windows, v. R61-21.
On March 29, Quicken hung after updating transactions. The completion screen showed very briefly, disappeared without acknowledgement, then two cursors, instead of one, alternated with the hourglass, each alternation about a second or two. Program is frozen, no functionality. Have to stop Quicken via Task Manager, exit process.
I'd been having problems like many others with updates not working for various accounts since mid-March.
One oddity was in trying to fix this problem, I ran file validation. Afterwards, I went to load the manual patch suggested in one of the posts related (possibly) to this problem. When it detected my version number, it said I had R1 on my laptop. An earlier validation I had tried reported the correct version R61-21.
Odd that start of update crashing coincides with fixes for other update problems.
I've tried validating, rebooting Windows, downloading Quicken updates manually, in various orders. Tried on restored working versions of data file, same problem. Validation resulted in two small corrections, didn't seem relevant.

Thank you for letting us know about this issue. Was there anything that happened around the time that the program started having this problem, such as a computer/program update or an unexpected computer/program shutdown? Do you keep your Quicken file directly on your local hard drive? Is it synced with any cloud service, such as OneDrive, iCloud, or DropBox? You can check your Quicken file's location from inside the Quicken program. Navigate to File, then look just above the Exit option. It will list the four Quicken files you've accessed most recently, with the one you're currently in at the #1 spot.
If the file is synced with a cloud service, you'll often see that cloud service listed in the file location.
I have reported this issue to the proper channels for further investigation and resolution. To assist with the investigation, please navigate to Help>Report a Problem and send a problem report with log files, and if you're willing, a sanitized data file attached.
While you will not receive a response through this submission, these reports will help our teams in further investigating the issue. The more problem reports we receive, the better.
We apologize for any inconvenience!
Thank you.

Quicken Kristina,
Thanks for your response.
Yes, files were on OneDrive. I'm not sure why, I've disabled it many times. I de-installed OneDrive altogether yesterday. Backup files on local drive can be restored, but still have problem, except that now updates are made and then Quicken crashes. I'm afraid I've corrupted lots of backup files but hopefully an older one might work?
I believe there was a Microsoft 11 update right before these problems. Not sure what was in the update, but I suspect this is when OneDrive was re-enabled.
I did recently add a loan to Quicken which is creating a problem. Quicken is unable to update that account. I tried de-activating and re-activating, now it says it can't activate automatic downloads. It successfully downloaded transactions for the last two months.

Thank you for your reply @LizzieT,
Thank you for the additional information. When you say you're afraid you've corrupted lots of backup files, what do you mean? Are you restoring them by changing the file name, rather than using the restore a backup function in Quicken? When you use the File>View/Restore Backups… menu option, it creates a Quicken file from that backup file, but doesn't remove/replace that backup file.
For the loan account issue, it would be best to start a new discussion so that issue can get the attention it needs. The reason you're not able to reconnect that loan account after deactivating it is because deactivating a loan account makes it a manual account. Manual loan accounts support functions that connected loan accounts don't, which prevents them from being connected.
Thank you!
