Register goes to negative

When I have a payment cleared that was assigned the wrong payee, I go to change the name and the pretty much the whole register goes into the negative. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for reaching out to the Community with this issue. To clarify, is this happening in only one account register, or multiple? Did this happen only once, with the payment you mentioned, or is this a recurring issue? What kind of account is this (checking, savings, credit card, etc.)?
How far into the negative did the account go? For example, is it acting like the amount was subtracted instead of added? If not, then could you please provide more detail on what changed?
Did you change the sort order or filter your register? If so, try clearing any filters and making sure the register is sorted by date.
