Quicken seems to be forcing me to upgrade from express to direct connect.

My only problem is that I don't want anything I do in quicken to update anything at the bank. I use quicken only as a register to manage my income and expenses. I don't want transfers I might show in quicken to show as transfers on the bank side. The bank always g]has the correct data.

The reason for this is that transfers frequently come down from the bank and quicken assigns the transfer incorrectly. Sometimes it takes me a few attempts to get them to match.

I rely on the bank as having the exact correct info and don't want to mess in up by making a bad mistake in Quicken and having it transferred to the bank.

I understood tat with Express, I could do what I wanted (needed) in quicken to make things match without worrying about anything being sent to the bank to mess that side up..

    This is the first time I have ever heard of Quicken forcing someone from Express Web Connect to Direct Connect. Very strange. Which financial institution?

    Anyways, even though Direct Connect has the protocol for making payments and transfers that affect the "real world", first off, the financial institution has to support that not just downloading of transactions. Second off you have to enter it in a special way to make a "real payment/transfer". It is totally optional.

    For the downloaded transfers (that happened outside of Quicken) there shouldn't be any difference between Express Web Connect and Direct Connect in this regard.

    With that being said, the reason that Quicken doesn't always "do transfers right" is because of the lack of information. When downloading transfers all Quicken gets is a withdraw in one account and a deposit for the same amount in another account. So, deciding if that is a transfer or not will always be guesswork unless you have already pre-entered the transfer into the register in some way, or if the transfer amounts are unique.

    Appreciate the response. Actually it was all my accounts. It said an error occurred on download and I tried to fix it. I deactivated the accounts and tried fo reset them. it came up with the upgrade to Direct connect and there was no option for Express. Subsequently, I have seen a google reply that said to deactivate the account and then readd the account by selecting the bank like I did when I first set it up. I guess there will be a option to select express there and then alloy me to link the account to what is there. I am going to wait until tomorrow so I don't stay up all night if it doesn't work,

    I have been using Quicken, dayly for the past 8 months or so and am a novice - kind of. I understand why the transfers come down messed up sometimes and feel comfortable in fixing them. Sometimes I make a mistake and don't catch it for a few days. What I am afraid of is I incorrectly 'fix' the transfer and when I do a update the bank will look at it as a new transaction.
