PNC and Capital One Accounts Incorrect Balance

My accounts were fine this morning, now I show a -$12k balance going back to February.

After running the one step update, several transactions were duplicated. The duplicates did not show C or R, but when I deleted them it warned me that it was a reconciled item. This is for both PNC and Capital One accounts. These duplicates are not the cause of my negative balance.

Also, all of my transactions that I accepted are showing C and not R.

My accounts also go back many years. What is going on?

Since you've already identified and removed duplicate transactions and confirmed they aren't the cause of the negative balance, let's look a little deeper:

1. You mentioned the issue appeared after a One Step Update—did the incorrect balance appear immediately after that, or did you notice it later when reviewing older data?
2. You also noted that reconciled transactions are now showing as “C” instead of “R.” That suggests Quicken may have reverted or altered your reconciliation status. Have you checked your reconciliation history to see if a previous statement was altered or deleted? That could force Quicken to mark everything as cleared again.
3. Since this is affecting multiple accounts (PNC and Capital One), the issue may be broader than just one account register. Check whether any Transfer transactions between those accounts are either missing, duplicated, or reversed—they can quietly throw off balances if one side changes.
4. Lastly, are there any placeholder transactions (gray entries usually at the top or bottom of your register)? These can be inserted automatically during sync and often adjust balances behind the scenes.
