How to resolve Unable to Initialize Quicken run-time components Windows-10 with all the latest updates on a Dell Latitude 7400 Laptop. Quicken was working one month and the following month I get the error. I have done all the recommended steps and called Quicken Support where they have no clue.

Have you tried re-installing your Q?

Yes, and even the latest Quicken update file.

I was instructed by Quicken Support to un-install Quicken, delete the Quicken folder from the Program (x86) folder, restart the PC and re-install Quicken using Administrator Rights. The problem still occurs.

    • @wdfreshour did Quicken Support have you check your antivirus and firewall settings? Your security software might be blocking Quicken. Try disabling temporarily or adding Quicken as an exception.

Yes, I turned both Windows Defender and Anti-virus off before re-installation, during re-installation, and after re-installations, and it made no difference.

@wdfreshour are you able to install Quicken on another computer to see if you get the same error?

It runs fine on my old Toshiba Laptop, I purchased a new Dell Latitude 7400 in December. Loaded all my software including Quicken and Quicken worked fine for a few months, but stopped working in April.

Both PC have the same windows updates installed on them and the same software. It's just strange…

I really don't want to start all over again.

@wdfreshour that tells me that there might be an issue with your Window installation on your new computer. There are ways to check for and fix corrupted files in Windows.

To check for and fix corrupted files in Windows 10, you can use built-in tools like System File Checker (SFC) and Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM):

Step 1: Run System File Checker (SFC)

    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for "cmd," right-click, and select "Run as administrator").
    2. Type the following command and press Enter:
    3. sfc /scannow
    4. Wait for the scan to complete. If corrupted files are found, Windows will attempt to repair them.

Step 2: Run DISM Tool (If SFC Doesn't Fix the Issue)

    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type the following command and press Enter:
    3. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    4. This process may take some time. It checks for corruption and repairs system files using Windows Update.

I have used these two tools and found errors in my own Windows installation. They might take a while to run, and at times it may seem like the process is frozen, but it's important to just let it finish.

Otherwise, I am at a loss as to why Quicken will not run on your new computer.

I tried both of these commands and it appears there is a problem with reading files on the hard drives as per the error report.

Thanks for the help and input, I am contacting Dell returns as the laptop is only 4 months old.

The problem was identified as the M.2 SSD was going bad and was stating bad sectors. Replace the M.2 SSD with a new one reload software and all issues were resolved.

Thanks for all the input and ideas.
