Better investment reports

I've been a Quicken user since way back, probably early 1990's. One thing that I liked in the old (I mean like 2013 or so) Quicken versions was the ability to really understand my investment returns. I could create a report that showed my return on investment for a specified period of time, so I could easily understand how my investments were doing. I don't find that report type in the modern Quicken Classic for Mac, and hope that it is implemented at some point. (I am self-employed and each year I'd use a report like that to determine where I'd put my annual SEP-IRA contribution. I'd create a report showing my various investment returns for the past year, then base my contribution upon that. Due to dividends, dollar cost averaging, etc, it is more complicated than just comparing how the prices changed over the course of a year.)

While there isn't a way to report the performance/IRR for a specified time period (start date / end date), there are some reasonable reports available in QMac… but they remain hidden within the "Portfolio" tab for either an individual or group of investment accounts. So, just making sure that you know these are there:

In the Portfolio tab, you can select the data displayed as either Performance, Portfolio Value or Realized Gain.

You can select the date for which that data should be displayed.

You can vary the columns displayed using the columns button on the far right of the screen to the left of the gear icon.

Finally, you can print or export that data using the "…" button on the far right of the filter bar. Print only offers totals for each security. If you use Export and go to Excel/Numbers to print from there… you can get info on each basis lot.

The Average Annual Returns for YTD and 1 Year columns (for the "Performance" view) might be close enough to what you're looking for?

PS. I'm a little mystified that these reports/export options remain as hidden as they are vs being available in the Reports menu/center. I totally missed that they existed when I switched from Windows to Mac and one of the kind people here pointed me to them.

Thanks, MontanaKarl, for pointing that out. Adding a 12 month % gain/loss column helps me see how things are going.

    aloha,
