Settling placeholders by copying transactions didn't resolve - help

good morning

I've read a few posts about settling placeholders, but I haven't come across my question.

I recently added my wife's 401k account to my registers, and so I have 12 placeholder entries for the different funds. I wasn't going to bother with this, but I need to resolve them to prevent future problems.

So, let's take fund X.
It downloaded a few recent transactions, and set a placeholder entry for 250 shares. I know that I can settle those 250 in a few ways, but I thought of copying the 6 transactions that make up those 250 shares from another copy of this 401k account in my register. In other words, why make up stuff, if I can copy those 6 transactions and keep it accurate.

So, I copied the 6 transactions from account 1 to account 2, account 2 now shows that she has 500 shares, and I have no way to delete that particular placeholder entry.

In resolving this security's placeholder, I see the option to enter the transactions manually. Is that what I have to do? Obviously, copying those 6 transactions did not convince the placeholder entry to disappear.

Thank you.

Do you actually have a Placeholder for this security, which will have a gray background even if it is not selected, and an Action of "Entry" and not an Added transaction?

Do the transactions you copied have earlier dates than the Placeholder? If so, the Placeholder should have been automatically reduced to zero shares, leaving you with the correct 250. If the Placeholder date is earlier than the copied transactions, they will not affect it.

In either case, you should be able to select the Placeholder in the account's Transaction List (Register) and click on the Delete button to delete it. If this does not work, what happens when you try to delete it?

    thank you Jim.
    I feel very foolish.
    1. The transactions took place before the placeholder.
    2. I didn't think to look at the actual register for the placeholder entry. I deleted it, and the share counts match now.
I've been using Quicken since Clinton or before, and I should have known to do that.

    Again, thank you
