Vanguard Funds Without Ticker Symbol Not Updating Prices
Not sure if this is related to some of the ongoing Vanguard issues, but for about the past month the pricing for two funds in my 401k at Vanguard have not been updating. These fund do not have ticker symbols so I guess they are internal for Vanguard. The information from the security detail for each of the funds is:
Vanguard Target Retirement 2020 Trust I (Symbol = 1464, CUSPID = VGI001464)
BT Walden SMID Cap Fd 1 (Symbol = VGI00N551, CUSPID = VGI001464) Note: the plan changed to this fund from the publicly traded BTSMX in early April
Anyone else experience this problem? I can manually update the pricing, but that involves logging on to my Vanguard account to see the latest prices.

@tneck I have a feeling that these two funds are "Collective Funds" or CITs. These funds are offered to retirement plans like 401(k)s, but are not publicly traded. The prices for these types of funds would need to be manually updated on Quicken.

I believe you are correct about the type of funds, however the Vanguard Target Retirement 2020 Trust I prices always used to update from Vanguard. Also, if I manually download transactions (ofx) from Vanguard, the prices for these two funds do come across for that day even if there are no new transactions.

@tneck from what you describe, the prices for the two funds are being updated by the QFX file and the OSU. This is a very common way for non-publicly traded funds to be priced in Quicken. The prices are in the update files even though there are no transactions for the securities. Not all financial institutions do this, or are able to do this. I have several securities whose prices are updated via the OFX file and OSU.
I sometimes notice that the prices updates from the QFX or OSU files are not always consistent and there is a day or more lag when they are updated.
One way to verify that the prices are being updated from the QFX file is to open the file in text pad and check for the price update transaction which will look like this - <UNITPRICE>0.989238444</UNITPRICE>. There would also be a price date.

Since Vanguard is Direct Connect you can also check the OFX log to see if they are sending the new price:
Help → Contact Support → Log Files → OFX Log
Note that the "QFX File" is basically just the response section of the OFX data sent when using Direct Connect.

Here is a nicely formatted (which Vanguard doesn't do in their OFX data) of the "summary data" of a security being reported:

@tneck - @Chris_QPW brings up a good point. Those QFX files are sometimes very difficult to read if the financial institution doesn't format it nicely (like Chris did). The one I pulled the price from was one long continuous string of characters. If I need to search for an item in a QFX file, I use the find function (Ctrl-F).

Thanks for all the info to troubleshoot. It does seem as if the prices are coming through, so not sure why they do not seem to be updating in the price history, although I noticed in the past even when I was getting updates it was not necessarily every day. I'll do some further investigation over the next couple of days.

The price is a bit old 2025/05/10, but certainly there.
About the only other thing I can think of is make sure the CUSIP/UNQUIEID is associated with the security you expect.
