There are fewer categories listed the categories list than in the report. Why

    In Quicken, when customizing a report, the Categories tab typically displays all categories available in your data file, regardless of whether they have associated transactions within the selected date range. However, certain factors can affect the categories shown in the customization list:

    • Hidden Categories: If a category is marked as hidden in your Category List, it won't appear in the customization list unless you select the option to show hidden categories.
    • Split Transactions: Categories used within split transactions may not be individually listed in the customization tab, depending on the report type and settings. This can result in categories appearing in the report output that weren't explicitly selected in the customization.

    To ensure all relevant categories are included:

    2. Review Split Transactions: Ensure that categories used in split transactions are appropriately selected or that the report settings account for splits.

    OTOH, when viewing your Tools / Category List and you want to see a complete list please make sure that

    • the Category List is set to "Show Full List" and
    • "[x] Show hidden categories" is selected and
    • the list is sorted by category (if the Category column title does not have a "▲" in it, click the title to sort the list)
    • the grey sidebar is set to show "All Categories"
    • the Search field is blank
