401 (k) Retirement Account keeps going to Zero.

Hi Support,
Macintosh, version 8.2.0, Deluxe OS: Sequoia 15.4.1

I have an account 401 (k) type which is under the Investing/Retirement group with a balance of approximately $33K. I see monthly interest adding to the account when I log into my credit union for updates.

For some odd reason, Quicken adds an entry to the register with today’s date with the entry type as Payment/Deposit, the Category is Adjustment and the amount is my current balance with a minus sign, so the balance becomes zero.

To correct this anomaly, I go to the register, hold the Option key down on my Mac, and click on the Transaction tab (to the right of Dashboard, Portfolio) so I can view this transaction and delete it. When I delete the transaction, the correct balance then appears.

I’m not sure why this adjustment automatically keeps taking place. Can you help me?

Regards,

Bob

    Hi Bob!

I would have to see your logs to confirm, but this is most likely happening because the bank or financial institution is telling us that the cash balance of the account is $0, so we create an adjustment to match the reported balance. There's not much we can do to fix it because the problem is due to bad data coming from the bank or financial institution.

In this case, you could disconnect the account and maintain its balance by manually adding transactions. You would also then be able to view the Transactions tab in order to edit and delete transactions as you desire. (Option-clicking to view the Transactions tab for a simple tracking account is intended for viewing the data while troubleshooting at the direction of support, it's not a supported mechanism for editing transactions of a simple tracking account.)
