Unable to deactivate account because non-existent transactions need to be reconciled

I have the same issue as KarlaD back on April 15th. I have an online connection that doesn't work. I can't deactivate it or reset it because it claims I have downloaded transactions that haven't been accepted. I don't see any downloaded transactions. I followed all the steps and got the same results as KarlaD. She copied each transaction to a new account and deleted the old account. I have 7692 transactions, so that isn't an option for me.

I need a solution that doesn't involved recreating this account by hand.

I am using Classis Windows Subscription version of Quicken.

@mschlich I understand your reluctance to move the transactions to a new investment account. But, I wanted to make it clear that you can select all transactions to move all at once, and not have to move them individually. Even with 7692 transactions, it doesn't take long to move the transactions.

I agree though, finding a solution without having to move transactions is definitely preferable.

@mshiggins: Thanks for linking the previous post.

@CaliQkn: The directions in the previous post state that the transactions must be moved one at a time. I did try to move all of them and after about 6 hours, I did a hard close of the quicken app. When I restarted, I had to recover from my previous backup. So don't think it is just reluctance. But I'm also here to learn. If you have successful experience moving large data…. let me know.

  • @mschlich sorry it didn't work but you don't need to move the transactions one at a time. When you use the Move function, it does go though each transaction and move them one at a time. But you do not move them one at a time.

Try moving the transactions in small groups and see if that works better. Then do larger groups. Sometimes it looks like Quicken has stalled but it does take a while a while for the process to complete.

Also, take a look at the other troubleshooting steps in that thread. I don't know if you tried any of them, but they might resolve your issue. These red flag issues are not easy to resolve and sometimes they are fixed by different solutions.

@CaliQkn In you first post you indicated that this was an investment account but in @mschlich's post I don't see anything mentioning the account type. And I suspect that it isn't an investment account because in the case of the investment account transaction move, they did it with backend database commands and a validate. And that goes pretty quickly.

Whereas for the non-investment accounts they used the lazy approach of commanding a GUI sequence for each transaction.

Out of curiosity I tied a move of 6764 transactions, and I do notice that it started out faster and then slowed down (I have the sounds for entering transactions on and as such can hear each transaction being moved).

So, maybe doing them in smaller batches might help, but it is still probably going to take quite a bit of time.

I would certainly try the other suggestions in the thread @mshiggins posted first.

  • @Chris_QPW that reference to an investment account was a typo on my part. I didn't realize I did that until you pointed it out. Oops! But even so, I have moved transactions for both investment and non-investment accounts. Programmatically they do use different methods but the end result is the same.

But yes for non-investment accounts, the transactions can be selected in bulk, but then the process goes through each transaction one by one, but the user doesn't need to move the transactions one by one. That is why I suggested moving them in small groups.

In the other thread, the only thing that work for the user was to move the transactions. But yes, if @mschlich hasn't tried the other troubleshooting steps, they are definitely worth trying.
