Holding period

Hi

The holding period in all my security is blank.

Quicken is not calculating any value.

Why is that?

and when I try to edit a security to see if there is any field related to that, I do not see any.

Could you explain how does it work and how is this field supposed to be updated?

Thanks.

I don't recall seeing a "holding period" field or feature. Where does that appear?

Hi, Please see the 7th column in the screenshot.

That column is not part of the default view. It is an optional column that you must have added to your view. I expect you'll have to contact Quicken Support to find out about that field/feature/column.

I can tell you what it is for, but I doubt it is useful or if even possible to be correct for the Canadian version. In other words, this is a US feature that just creeps into the Canadian version.

And you can get an idea about what column are for if you look at them in the "Available Columns" section first before adding them to the "Displayed Columns" (or hovering over the column header).

For US capital gains tax laws. Short Term (less than a year) == regular tax rate, Long Term (a year or more) 0%, 15%/20% tax bracket (depending on income). And to show you how out of date Quicken is with tax laws and such. The Super Long-Term period was 1 1/2 years or more for an even lower rates, but that one was removed in 1997 in the "Taxpayer Relief Act of 1997" bill.

    This along with this one:

And for the record I turned both of these on and only the Holding Period gave me anything and I also had to expand the security lots to see anything.
