Then it list a bogus Account number. This account number created and is then listed in the Category List.
Very frustrating. Any ideas what causes this and how to get rid of it?
@GreyEagle did you recently need to close Quicken using "Ctrl-Alt-Del", or did Quicken crash? What you describe is when a process in Quicken is abruptly terminated.
One thing to try to get rid of that validation error is to make a copy of your data file using the "copy file" process.

If, after Validation, you have entries in your Category List referring to "bogus accounts" named something like ACCT_1234 or TEMP_1234, you should be able to delete this entry from the Category List, getting rid of the problem for good.
Entries like this may have lurked in your data file for many years. There once was a problem with transaction downloads creating temporary accounts but, due to some problem or bug, not properly deleting them at end of download. In the past, Validation did delete them. If it could not, delete them yourself.
@UKR even if you delete the bogus "ACCT_1234" categories, they sometimes keep coming back when you do a validate. I have experienced this myself.
