So I wanted to reduce my active Quicken file from 8+ years to 4+ years. I ran a Create Archive process, which created multiple time-wasting problems for me. I have no hope that this problem will be resolved anytime soon, so I thought I should pay it forward by telling other users not to fall into the same tracks.
- When I wanted to archive just the year 2016, the "archive was a complete copy of my active Quicken file
- My active quicken file had all 2025 posts deleted. That's over 5 months of entries and reconciliations lost.
- And in this archive process, somehow all my Quicken backups were lost.
Forunately I use file versioning backup software, so I was able to retrieve the 10 pm backups for 4 days, and I found one Quicken file that minimized my data loss.
Someone less invested in nightly backups would have had a real problem.
So now I have to use a much more manual process to achive my goal of year by year archives for 2016-2020.
The reason I wanted to archive those years is that my financial situation has changed in some important ways, and there was no more value in including those years for budgeting, etc.
