Multiple issues with Create Archive process (caution for all other users)

So I wanted to reduce my active Quicken file from 8+ years to 4+ years. I ran a Create Archive process, which created multiple time-wasting problems for me. I have no hope that this problem will be resolved anytime soon, so I thought I should pay it forward by telling other users not to fall into the same tracks.

  1. When I wanted to archive just the year 2016, the "archive was a complete copy of my active Quicken file
  2. My active quicken file had all 2025 posts deleted. That's over 5 months of entries and reconciliations lost.
  3. And in this archive process, somehow all my Quicken backups were lost.

Forunately I use file versioning backup software, so I was able to retrieve the 10 pm backups for 4 days, and I found one Quicken file that minimized my data loss.

Someone less invested in nightly backups would have had a real problem.

So now I have to use a much more manual process to achive my goal of year by year archives for 2016-2020.

The reason I wanted to archive those years is that my financial situation has changed in some important ways, and there was no more value in including those years for budgeting, etc.

Been using Quicken (and TurboTax) since DOS days in 1990s. Now using Quicken subscription on Windows.
