Enabling Negative (Debit) Interest Income and Dividend Transactions

One of my financial accounts (that does not link directly to Quicken) just had a debit to my interest income to adjust for a previous overpayment of interest to me. I do not see any way to put in a negative interest income transaction in Quicken. I have previously written about the inability to enter a negative amount for dividend income to reflect adjustments to dividend income which sometimes occur (most frequently when final tax reports are received for certain types of investments that reclassify dividend income to Return of Capital or LT Capital Gain Distributions, for example). I understand that normally interest and dividends are not negative, but sometimes there are debits rather than the normal credits for these types of income. Quicken should add this capability, perhaps with an “Are you sure?” alert when a negative entry is attempted. This should be a very easy fix compared with the many significant enhancements that Quicken continues to make to its products.

While people are thinking about your idea (not a bad idea, if I may say so) … meanwhile have you tried to do this?

You may not be able to record an investment transaction of Type "Interest Income" with a negative amount, but you should be able to record a "Misc Expense" transaction and categorize it to the same Interest Income category.
