Jacobs, Jon & Others, when I hover over the "i" button next to "Total" towards the bottom of the sidebar, I get "There are 5 accounts that are not included in Total because they are not visible in the sidebar."

Why is this happening and how can I see which 5 accounts it's referring to?

Go into Quicken Settings, select the Sidebar tab, and at the bottom check the Hidden box in the Accounts to Display section. If the Hidden accounts are closed then you'll also have to check the Closed box in order for them to be displayed.

My Hidden accounts are all old closed accounts with a $0 balance so they don't have any affect on the sidebar total even if they are displayed. But displaying them does get rid of that little "I" button.

What @Jon said. 😀 I have 30 closed accounts which are mentioned in the "i" dialog. But they all have $0 balances, and I don't display them in the sidebar; I'd much rather have the little "i", which I barely notice, than the clutter of seeing those 30 accounts in my sidebar!

So I suggest displaying your closed and hidden accounts temporarily to see what Quicken says it is including in the Total value, but once you verify those accounts have $0 values, go ahead and remove them from the sidebar again, and ignore the "i".

Jon & Jacobs, that's great news. I was hoping that you were going to say that they were most likely to be nil balances. That's a relief. It all makes sense now.

Who decided to "hide" them in Total? Me or Quicken?

Probably you; I can't think of anything in Quicken that would automatically hide an account. When you mark an account as closed you can optionally mark it as hidden at the same time but you have to select that option.

Ha-ha, probably me. I’m sure you’re right. It was a long time ago when closed them. I must have marked them as hidden at the same time, as you say. That’s cleared it up for me. I’ll be more careful and mindful next time 🤔
